Victorious Comfort Home 9 HVAC 9 8 Signs that Indicate Your Air Duct Needs Repair

When an air duct repair needs to be done, it isn’t always obvious straight away. In fact, many signs may be far too subtle for the homeowner to be able to spot. However, this can have a massive impact in the long run.

Sometimes, there may also be glaring signs that are far too hard to ignore. Once it becomes normal, it can be hard to identify issues. However, you must be able to trust the air you are breathing.

After all, your house is the very last place you want to be at risk. So, why risk it? You need to be responsible, informed, and proactive if you want to maintain your family’s security.

Here are eight signs that your air ducts need to be repaired.

1. Dirt and Dust Around the Air Vents

An unclean air duct can be worth a lot more trouble than it is worth. When you begin to see dust and dirt accumulating around your air vents, there is very likely an issue with the filtration in your air ducts. Normally, dust and debris are caught in the air filters when changed regularly.

If this gets into the machinery, it can make air duct repair necessary.

2. Unexpected High Energy Bills

While every region has seasonal energy bill spikes, if yours seems abnormally high, this can be a sign that your air conditioning system appears to have faulty or leaky air ductwork. If your air ducts haven’t been installed correctly, the energy can essentially be leaking out.

3. Strange Noises

If your system is making odd noises, your ducts could be damaged. This could cause it to wear and tear much faster than usual. Unusual noises are generally not a positive sign when it comes to your system.

4. Uneven Temperatures

Your house should have no issue keeping temperature. If one room becomes warmer or cooler than the rest of the house, your ducts could be compromised. If your ducts can’t deliver even temperatures, they may be compromised.

5. Poor Airflow

Low airflow can be a sign of broken seals, tears, or cracks in your ducting that are allowing air to leak out. This means that less air will make it to the vent and very little air is circulated.

6. Smelling Mold or Mildew

If you smell mold or mildew whenever you turn the air conditioner or heater on, this can indicate a duct leak or poorly insulated ducts. There could also be a moisture leak on the vents themselves.

7. Signs of Pest Infestation

If your ductwork has holes or crevices, it can allow pests to find a fertile breeding ground. Then, pests can get into your ductwork through the small holes. Though, rats or mice can get through the larger holes.

8. Old or Tangled Air Ducts

Old or tangled air ducts can be disastrous for your system. If you need them fixed, you need to call a licensed HVAC company. Our team at Victorious Comfort Home Heating and Air Conditioning can help you.
